I first discovered Summer while I was searching for a competition coach. I follow multiple Instagram pages of women who compete and it looked so much fun! My mom had done competition in the past, and I wanted to follow her steps. When searching for a coach, I wanted someone who was actively involved in competitions, not a coach that had competed 10+ years ago. I was also looking for someone who was local, which I thought would be impossible in this small town. Fortunately I came across Summer’s Facebook page and then went to her website. I took one look through her pictures and posts and knew she was the one! Summer was the coach I wanted to push and guide me on my journey. I reached out to her and she instantly responded and answered all my questions that I had in regards to what federation was the best, why and what a good time frame was to shoot for before my show. From there we began my journey to my first bikini competition.
Summer and I got started right away with changing my diet and workouts. She gave me all the information and tools that I needed from the beginning to be successful. I started my journey at around 137 pounds, and after the first week I lost 3 pounds. Little did I know I would gain this back and more with the lean muscle I would put on. Summer was great in reminding me that this process is SLOW! Nothing is going to happen overnight and more importantly, not every girl is supposed to and can get a 6 pack! It just isn’t possible for every body type. I e-mailed a picture to Summer every Sunday for check ins, and she was always positive with her feedback, and she always was able to see just one picture and know where to go from there with my training and food.

I choose to compete in the Natural Iowa Muscle Competition in Des Moines which is a part of the NANBF Federation. I chose this because it was close to home and it gave me about 11 weeks to prepare. I was so excited to have Summer backstage with me before my show to help calm my nerves and keep me informed on what to eat and when, before I went on stage. The best part was that she was able to make it back into the crowd to watch my onstage, and it was such a relief to see her sitting right behind the judges. (Basically in their pockets) I was able to look at her and feel relaxed while it looked like I was looking at the judges. This kept me calm as she smiled with confidence and looked so proud! During the night show, there were twice as many people in the audience so I was no longer able to see anyone I knew. Next thing I know, Summer makes her way somehow to the 2nd row and it sitting there with a smile. Once again, I was able to look at her and keep my nerves calm as she cheered me on. I ended up placing 3rd in Iowa Medium division and 4th in the Open Iowa Medium division, something that would of never be accomplished without Summer.

I am so lucky to have found Summer not only as a coach, but as a friend. Being a SMF Diva has changed my confidence that was nonexistent before starting this journey and I can’t say thank you enough! The best thing I think I can do is continue on as a SMF Diva do my best to place higher and higher at each show.
Thank you so much for everything you do Summer! This is just the beginning!!!
